ARCG

Purpose

Older gay men, due to their specific characteristics and needs, feel the need to create safe and inclusive spaces that support the maintenance and improvement of their physical and mental health, their empowerment, and their quality of life, while promoting social engagement and collective care.

“In the same spirit of inclusion, ARCG recognizes these needs and specificities for all older 2SLGBTQIA+ people and seeks to support each of these communities. Members are at the heart of ARCG’s life—they are the organization’s DNA, and their volunteer efforts make ARCG a truly collective endeavor. For 24 years, the organization has existed and grown by and for its members. They have contributed countless hours of volunteer work, building ARCG through relentless, daily dedication, without any paid staff for the first twenty years. The intensity of this volunteer commitment reflects the vital importance of ARCG to its members

Chosen Family

Request

Chosen family consists of people who are not related by blood but are connected through a relationship of intimacy, trust, safety, or protection, with whom there is emotional closeness—such as former life partners, intimate partners, long-time friends, and other members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

It can serve as an alternative to the traditional biological family

Although the expression has since been distorted to refer to natural caregivers, its original meaning did not specifically include this role, since not all members of a chosen family act as caregivers.
